Intermittent Fasting forever

Today is my wedding anniversary...8 years married. And today is another anniversary...900 days of intermittent fasting!

Wow, I can hardly believe it has been that long, yet somehow I always knew this would be a lifelong journey for me. When I first started fasting for weight loss, I would talk a bit about the intermittent fasting program with people I knew and I got a regular question: "But, what will you do once you lose the weight, go back to eating normally?"

I knew from my past failures with dieting that of course it never works to change your routine temporarily. I knew this because I had always gained back any weight lost while dieting. So when I found intermittent fasting, I decided right away that I had to do this forever.

And that really is the key. Doing something forever, whatever it is.

I say it all the time, diets don't work. That is only because diet = temporary. If you took on any diet out there as a forever thing, they would all work! But really, who can eat only lettuce forever, or count calories forever, or not eat carbs forever? Not many people I know.

Lifestyle change is just a fancy phrase that means forever. And the only way you will want to do something forever is if it doesn't feel like work, like effort, like a diet.

Intermittent fasting is my forever thing. What is yours?

  3. So ... about my last blog post ... I have a family member all butt-hurt and mad at me because I said that starvation mode is bunk. She took it very personally that I was attacking her way of eating. Did I say that eating frequently is bunk? No! I said the reasons we've been fed about why it works is bunk! Funny how this whole diet/exercise thing can be like religion ... such a controversial and sensitive subject!

    1. It is very common for people to get really mad or unreasonably upset around your eating habits. Not really sure the reason why this happens but maybe it could be their own frustration coming through about their own struggles with weight?

I have written a few posts on this subject...what is known as the achilles heel of fasting, check them out!

  5. This guy on youtube commented on my profile saying I'll die by fasting. I told him he full of bull because he doesn't know anything. I'm for intermittent fasting and long periods of fasting. We all know that stored fat is energy. When we don't consumed food our bodies, I guess panic and uses the stored fat for energy. This is how we lose weight. I've been doing the eat stop eat, preparing myself for my first long water fast.

  6. Hi,

Just read through your whole blog. So inspiring! :) I am a 41-year-old woman who has just recently started the IF life (I fast for 20 hours -- from 7 p.m. to 4 p.m. the next day). I've already lost 3 pounds just this week, and I'm not seriously overweight to begin with. I have about 25 pounds to lose. I am already LOVING this lifestyle. Right now, I'm not worried about healthy eating during my eating window. I'm just enjoying all the food I've thought I can't have. Anyway, thanks for this blog! :)
